Ohio Lawyer Gets Probation for Faking Kidnapping

An Ohio attorney who disappeared for several days last year while pregnant and later falsely claimed to have been kidnapped at gunpoint, has been sentenced to probation and a $300 fine in a Toledo misdemeanor case for making false alarms.
Karyn McConnell Hancock, 35, apologized to investigators, family and friends at today's sentencing, reports the Toledo Blade. She earlier decided to give up her law license after client claims that she had mishandled their funds, and she pleaded guilty to embezzling $130,000 from a man's estate, as discussed in a previous ABAJournal.com post.
Other clients have made similar accusations, and "Ms. McConnell Hancock and her attorney, Jerome Phillips, are scheduled to meet with investigators and county prosecutors Tuesday to discuss the theft and forgery charges against her," the Blade writes. "Mr. Phillips said Ms. McConnell Hancock has agreed to answer any questions authorities have regarding the embezzlement."
Her baby, a girl, was born three weeks ago, Fox News notes.
