O’Melveny & Myers is offering a buyout package to older partners, according to a lawyer who is taking advantage of it.

Masood Sohaili told Legal Pad the buyout offer is temporary and available to lawyers over 50. He didn’t disclose any other details. Sohaili is taking the buyout and jumping to Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. He has experience in affordable housing and project development finance.

The blog says it’s wondering if another year of flat profits prompted the buyout offer. One anonymous observer told the publication that the firm may have analyzed its finances and “maybe found out that the older guys aren’t sprinting, but trotting.”
