Paris Hilton Jail Perks Probe Launched

Did Paris Hilton get special treatment during her brief jail stay for violating probation on an alcohol related traffic offense?

That is the question to be answered by a newly launched Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigation. The hotel heiress allegedly had her mail delivered by top brass at the Lynwood jail; was given access to a cell phone, whereas other inmates waited in line to use a pay phone; and was issued a brand-new jail uniform, whereas other inmates routinely wore hand-me-downs, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Other issues also are being investigated concerning Hilton's custody, according to Michael Gennaco, chief attorney for the Sheriff's Department's Office of Independent Review, but he would not specify what they are. "We want to make sure the department looks into these matters in an objective and thorough way," he told the Times. "Whatever allegations of special treatment are reported, we will ensure there is an appropriate inquiry and report the results of those reviews."
