Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker is launching a German office with the acquisition of a 27-lawyer German law firm.

The acquisition of Frankfurt law firm Smeets Haas Wolff is the culmination of a longtime drive to launch a German office by Paul Hastings, Legal Week reports. The German firm focuses on corporate, banking and restructuring work.

In the last four years, Paul Hastings has opened offices in Paris and Milan and beefed up its London presence.

“Expanding our European footprint with the opening of an office in Germany, the largest economy in Europe, is a key element of our global expansion strategy,” Paul Hastings chairman Seth Zachary said in a press release.

Zachary told Legal Week that it is now looking to expand with an office in Korea.
