Police Plan Military-Style Checkpoint in Washington, D.C., Neighborhood

It's not an actual war zone. But police plan to treat a violence-plagued neighborhood in northeast Washington, D.C., as though it were, establishing a temporary military-style checkpoint beyond which those without legitimate reason to be in Trinidad will not be allowed to proceed.
Police will also check the identification of drivers entering the neighborhood at that location, reports the Washington Post. Those who enter the neighborhood at other locations, or during hours when the checkpoint is not in operation, will not be targeted.
"In certain areas, we need to go beyond the normal methods of policing," said Mayor Adrian Fenty at a news conference announcing the plan "We're going to go into an area and completely shut it down to prevent shootings and the sale of drugs."
