Pregnant Lawyer ‘Resigns’ from Law Practice

The pregnant Toledo lawyer who pleaded guilty to faking her own kidnapping is admitting to misusing client funds and plans to give up her law license.
Karyn McConnell Hancock, who is seven months pregnant and went missing for three days in December, pleaded guilty Tuesday in probate court to embezzling more than $130,000 from the estate of a murdered Toledo city worker, the Toledo Blade reports.
Other clients are making similar accusations. Her lawyer, Jerry Phillips, told the paper that McConnell Hancock is taking responsibility for what she's done. “She just wants to get as much of this behind her as she can," Phillips is quoted saying.
Phillips also said his client is asking the Ohio Supreme Court to take action on her law license.
“She thinks the best for everyone is that she resigns from the practice of law,” Phillips says.
