Proposed Law School Shot Down, For Now, By Maine Supreme Judicial Court

A proposed law school in Maine has been shot down by the state's highest court, which said in a ruling released today that it would not allow graduates to take the bar exam.
Because Husson College doesn't plan to seek ABA accreditation for its proposed law school and has presented no alternative plan for an "accreditation process specific to legal education," its graduates will not be permitted to take the Maine bar, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court says in a written opinion (PDF). Although dated last week, it was not posted on the court's website until today, the Bangor Daily News noted.
Law school officials have said they would not proceed if the court prohibited graduates from taking the bar. However, the decision leaves the door open for the school to reapply once it addresses the court's concerns, the newspaper wrote.
