Prosecutors Recommend Law Prof as Pit Bull Guardian

Prosecutors are asking a federal judge to appoint a law professor to serve as a guardian for 48 pit bulls seized from property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.
Prosecutors say Rebecca Huss, a professor at Valparaiso University law school, should have the authority to find interim shelter for the dogs while they undergo evaluation for possible placement with homes or in sanctuaries, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. Huss has written several articles on animal law.
The motion also asks for the animals to be spayed or neutered, and implanted with microchips, the Associated Press reports.
Vick has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge in connection with a dogfighting operation known as Bad Newz Kennels.
