Qualcomm GC Resigns

On the heels of several legal setbacks, Qualcomm has announced the resignation of its general counsel, Lou Lupin.
He will be replaced on an acting basis by former U.S. attorney Carol Lam, the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) reports. She joined Qualcomm in February. The company said in a press release that it will conduct a nationwide search for a successor.
Last week, a federal judge accused Qualcomm of “litigation abuse” in its suit against rival microchip maker Broadcom. The judge said Qualcomm failed to turn over discovery documents and waived its right to enforce two patents because it did not disclose its participation in a standards-setting body. Qualcomm suffered another hit when the Bush administration said it would let stand a ruling by the U.S. International Trade Commission banning the import of cell phones made with infringing Qualcomm microchips.
