After 50 years of law practice, Edna Shalala was ready to retire.

But now, six years later, the 96-year-old is living the good life, reports the Miami Herald. A fractured wrist is keeping her off the course—for now. But Shalala expects to be swinging her clubs again as soon as it heals.

Meanwhile, Shalala, who was a schoolteacher before she became a lawyer, is keeping busy with other activities, reports the newspaper, which features a photo of the swimsuited retiree poolside. "I do everything a young person does—classes, lectures, water exercises, yoga," she says. "I used to play tennis."

Among the practices that have helped her live a long and healthy life: She doesn't eat a lot of meat and has never been much of a drinker. Instead, her diet focuses on Mediterranean food and soups and salads.
