Ed Neufeld figured out a way to provide cheap entertainment on a date when he was courting his girlfriend, Harriett, in New York City when both were in their 20s.
The couple would visit night court and observe the proceedings, the Gazette reports.
Now the Neufelds have been married for 55 years, and are living at the Leisure World retirement community in suburban Washington, D.C. The couple is still visiting the courthouse, a hobby they took up again when Ed retired from his job as a civil engineer 14 years ago. They have watched nearly 1,000 court cases during that time.
"It's better than television, I'll tell you that much," Ed told the newspaper.
