Entertainment lawyer and avid surfer Gerald A. Margolis, whose high-profile clients included the Rolling Stones, R. Kelly and Robin Williams, died Sept. 15 at age 65.

Margolis was diagnosed six years ago with progressive muscular atrophy and died of complications relating to pneumonia, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Margolis was well-known for his first rule in defending a famous client: "Don't ignore the media."

In a 2002 Times interview, Margolis said, "Sometimes you need to tell your client's story, or someone else will."

Margolis, a partner of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, helped build his firm's music practice.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Darryl F. Zanuck Theater at Fox Studios.
