Hartford-based law firm Robinson & Cole is expanding with the addition of more than 30 lawyers from the dissolving law firm Thelen.

With the additional lawyers, the commercial land use and real estate firm will have 225 lawyers, report the Connecticut Law Tribune and the National Law Journal. The Law Tribune’s headline calls the acquisition a “bold expansion move.”

Robinson managing partner Eric Daniels told the Law Tribune that the new lawyers will bolster the firm’s strong construction and technology practices, while beefing up its real estate, employment, intellectual property and finance practice groups. Nine of the lawyers are partners, the NLJ story says.

The Thelen lawyers will join Robinson offices in New York as well as Hartford. Daniels said the firm is able to add lawyers during bad economic times because the firm has little debt and is well-positioned to expand.
