A New York law firm known for representing hedge fund clients is opening an office in Washington, D.C., that will be staffed partly with lawyers from Dickstein Shapiro and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Schulte Roth & Zabel decided to expand to D.C. to help its clients on matters involving Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement and regulatory compliance, the American Lawyer reports. The law firm hired five lawyers, four of them from Dickstein and one from Morgan Lewis.

Among those making the move is Howard Schiffman, who worked at Dickstein since 1980 and headed its securities litigation, regulatory and compliance practice, the story says.

A 2007 article in the New York Times reported that hedge fund legal work is booming because activist shareholders are bringing more proxy contests.
