Scooter Libby Loses Law License

A former top aide to to Vice President Dick Cheney was disbarred today by a Washington, D.C., appeals court because of his convictions last year for perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with an investigation of who leaked the identity of then-CIA agent Valerie Plame.
I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby lost his license to practice law until at least 2012, when he will be eligible to reapply for bar membership, reports the Washington Post.
"When a member of the Bar is convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude, disbarment is mandatory," explains a three-judge panel in the Washington, D.C., Court of Appeals two-page written opinion (PDF). "This court has held that obstruction of justice and perjury are crimes of moral turpitude per se."
