Shackled 10-year-old Convicted of Fla. Felony

Standing before a Florida judge in an oversize white prison jumpsuit and shackles, a 10-year-old boy was convicted of aggravated battery yesterday for throwing a brick at a homeless man.
The boy, who is not named in news reports, faces a potential sentence ranging from probation to, conceivably, being held in a juvenile detention center until he reaches age 21, according to CNN. Prosecutors say he participated with another 10-year-old and a 17-year-old in an unprovoked attack on a homeless Army veteran in Daytona, Fla., which left the victim, 58, in need of repeated surgeries.
The other 10-year-old assailant pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge and could be sentenced May 24 to as much as one year of juvenile detention. The 17-year-old has pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery and has not yet been tried.
