A federal jury in Texas has awarded a New Jersey radiologist $431.9 million in a suit against Boston Scientific Corp. for infringing his patent for a heart stent.

Plaintiff Bruce Saffran has also sued Johnson & Johnson in another infringement suit related to stents, the Wall Street Journal reports. The two companies are among four stent makers involved in litigation over stent patents, including lawsuits against each other.

Saffran was represented by Dickstein Shapiro, which says the verdict is the sixth-highest ever awarded in a patent infringement case, the Wall Street Journal Law Blog reports. The firm has taken on high-stakes plaintiffs work even as other law firms have shunned it, the blog says.
