A lawsuit filed against Playtex Products claims its plastic baby bottles contain a dangerous chemical known as bisphenol A.

The suit was filed in New Haven, Conn., federal court after Canada announced it may ban the use of BPA in baby bottles over concerns it could be harmful, the Associated Press reports. The suit, filed by an Arkansas woman, seeks class action status.

The U.S. government has said that experiments on rats provide “limited evidence” the chemical may be linked to changes in behavior and precancerous changes in the prostate and breast, the story says.

A Playtex spokeswoman notes that regulatory bodies continue to consider BPA to be safe, but said the company will be converting to BPA-free products because of consumer confusion.
