Suit Says Energy Drink Caused Endless Erection, Seeks Damages

A New York City man claims he got a lot more than he bargained for when he purchased and drank a can of Boost Plus nutrition beverage. An erection that wouldn't quit, in fact, Christopher Woods says in a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the energy drink.

"It gave me a lot of energy -- too much energy," Woods, who lives in Harlem, told the New York Post on Tuesday. "It was unbearable and embarrassing."

The action, which was filed in state court in Manhattan, seeks unspecified damages from Novartis Consumer Health Inc. over Woods' three-day ordeal and its medical aftermath, the Post and AP report. Woods, 29, had to have surgery to correct his condition, which is called severe priapism, according to the suit, and he tells the Post he is now partially impotent. Although a claim reportedly was made at the court Monday against Novartis, the suit apparently may be a refiling of an earlier 2004 tort case against the former manufacturer of Boost Plus, according to the Post.
