Tax Protest Site Wins Reprieve

A tax protest Web site has won a temporary reprieve from an order to turn over identifying information about people who accessed certain online information.
The order would have required givemeliberty.org to give the government information about people who learned how to keep the federal government from withholding taxes from their paychecks, the New York Times reports.
Judge Peter Hall of the New York City-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily blocked the order and scheduled a Sept. 18 hearing on the issue.
Judge Thomas McAvoy of Binghamton, N.Y., had issued the order when he ruled Aug. 9 that givemeliberty.org should shut down because it was inciting people to violate tax laws.
