Teacher in First Amendment Dispute Transferred

A Woodburn, Ind., high school teacher who advised a student newspaper that ran a column advocating tolerance for gays will get to keep her job.
The teacher, Amy Sorrell, will be transferred to another school under a deal worked out by her attorney, the Journal Gazette reports. She will not teach journalism.
After the column ran in the paper, the school district adopted a new policy requiring the principal to review all articles before they ran, but Sorrell’s journalism class refused to print it, according to the News-Sentinel.
The Journal Gazette reports Sorrell has been a longtime supporter of the First Amendment.
