Prosecutors: More Kids Assaulting Parents

Houston-area prosecutors report an “alarming trend” of children assaulting their parents.

Children were charged with such assaults in more than 1,800 cases over a 2 ½ year period, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The numbers surprised career Harris County, Texas, prosecutors, even as they acknowledged that violence by children against parents seems to be escalating.

"It's scary," Kris Moore, a juvenile prosecutor, told the newspaper. "I don't know if it's media or television or violent games or what. You've got so many parents out there working their butts off trying to make ends meet, and it's harder for them to supervise their kids."
