Add the University of Virginia to a growing list of well-known law schools that are offering animal law programs thanks to the generosity of television game show host Bob Barker.

Barker, perhaps best-known as the former host of the Price is Right, has just given $1 million to establish a program at UVA's School of Law, according to a university press release.

"Barker's gift will enable the creation of Virginia's first formal course focused exclusively on animal law," which is expected to debut during 2009-2010 academic year, it explains. "The gift will also be used to bring in speakers on animal law topics, fund independent study and externship opportunities, and sponsor a writing competition open to all graduate students at the University of Virginia."

Barker has already made similar donations to Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, Duke University School of Law, Northwestern University School of Law, Stanford Law School and the University of California at Los Angeles.
