As It Loses a 3rd Name Partner, Thelen Shrinks Its Name

Following word today that the third name partner in four months has announced plans to leave Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner, the firm has announced that it will shorten its name to Thelen.

Jeffrey Steiner has announced that he will be leaving for DLA Piper next month, along with seven corporate and finance partners, according to Am Law Daily and a DLA Piper press release. He will serve as co-chair of the U.S. finance group at his new firm.

As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, name partners Richard Raysman and Peter Brown jumped ship earlier this year. They and Steiner came to Thelen in 2006, via a merger with their 250-lawyer firm, Brown, Raysman, Millstein Felder & Steiner.

The other partners exiting with Steiner for DLA Piper: Scott Weinberg, Robert Unger, Rand Peppas, Marc Friedman, R. Kenneth MacCallum, Robert Mower and Jason Goldstein.

Concerning its shortened name, which will be in effect as of Sept. 9, the one word "will better reflect the firm's 80-year history as one of the world's premier law firms. A single corporate identity also has the added benefit of consistent branding in the domestic and global markets in which Thelen operates," the firm says in a press release.

It began shortening its name to Thelen for branding purposes last year.
