Tired of Waiting, House Subpoenas Karl Rove to Testify in US Atty Probe

The House Judiciary Committee today subpoenaed Karl Rove, the ex-White House political adviser. He's being called to testify as part of the committee's continuing probe of whether the White House was overly involved with the Justice Department.
The Judiciary Committee is looking into the firings of nine U.S. attorneys and the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, a Democrat.
The firings provoked claims of White House meddling in the administration of justice and ultimately led to the resignation of then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, the Associated Press and Reuters reports.
The news wires report that the subpoena orders Rove to testify July 10.
The AP quotes House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, who had tried to get Rove to testify voluntarily, as saying that, "It is unfortunate that Mr. Rove has failed to cooperate with our requests. Although he does not seem the least bit hesitant to discuss these very issues weekly on cable television and in the print news media, Mr. Rove and his attorney have apparently concluded that a public hearing room would not be appropriate."
