News earlier today that Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman is cutting 55 attorneys and 100 staff was soon followed by word of layoffs at two other well-known law firms.

Washington, D.C.-based Arent Fox has announced that it is eliminating 13 associates and 15 staff members, and Bingham McCutchen has laid off 16 corporate associates and counsel and 23 staff members, reports Above the Law in two separate posts this afternoon. (News of the Arent layoffs struck first, closely followed by the Bingham blast.) Both firms also imposed pay freezes earlier this year.

The layoffs today follow news of well over 1,200 attorney and staff cuts at law firms elsewhere since Friday, bringing the total of reported major law firm layoffs, in a little less than one week, almost to 1,500.
