Treatment an Option in NY Gambling Court

Offenders who appear in the nation’s first gambling court in suburban Buffalo, N.Y., can receive treatment instead of jail time.

Justice Mark G. Farrell presides, overseeing a docket of crimes that range from burglary to check forgery, according to the New York Times.

Court staffers say more than half of around 100 defendants who have appeared in the Amherst court since it opened it opened in 2001 have successfully completed treatment programs for gambling addiction.
