A pickup carrying an Indiana judge and six of his supporters crashed into the law office of a lawyer who represented his election opponent.

Judge Abe Navarro of Clark County said the Sunday evening crash was a “freakish” accident, the News and Tribune reports. “It was surreal in a bad way,” he said. The truck was driven by Navarro’s bailiff, Jeremy Snelling, who passed out and hit the building, two people in the truck told the newspaper.

A Breathalyzer found no alcohol in Snelling’s system; Snelling’s father said his son had a nerve condition that caused him to black out, the newspaper reports.

The law offices partly belonged to lawyer Jack Vissing, who represented Navarro’s opponent in a battle that had both candidates trying to remove the other from the ballot, the story says. Vissing gave Navarro the benefit of the doubt in an interview with the News and Tribune. “I don’t think the campaign’s going very well, but I don’t think he was being a kamikaze,” Vissing said.
