Will Florida’s Top-Paid County Attorney Get a Raise?

Attorney Robert Cuevas already is the highest-paid county attorney in Florida.

But some Miami-Dade commissioners are trying to give him a 9 percent raise, which would increase his salary from $290,721 to $319,000 annually, reports the Miami Herald.

They also want to give the 38-year county veteran and his family medical and dental coverage.

An effort to vote in the pay raise late last night as lengthy meeting was ending failed, however—thanks to legal advice Cuevas provided to Commissioner Carlos Gimenez. Asked by Gimenez if the pay-raise proposal qualified for a procedural objection, due to the fact it hadn't been put through a standard committee process or listed for at least four days on a public agenda, "Cuevas said it would—giving Gimenez the power to temporarily kill his raise," the newspaper recounts

The pay-raise proposal could be considered again at a Dec. 2 meeting.
