Work Intrudes on Workouts

The ABA Journal is among the sweat-stained magazines at the gym of Washington Post reporter Peter Carlson, who wonders if work-related magazines are more of a D.C. phenomenon.
He confesses in his Magazine Reader column that he read the magazine’s article on the outsourcing of legal work, “Manhattan Work at Mumbai Prices.”
He also skimmed through magazines for dog lovers, Geico policyholders, chiropractors, physicians, retired federal employees and association executives.
“Do I belong to some kind of weird gym?” he asks. “Or is this a Washington-wide phenomenon, another example of our famous nerdy workaholism? Somehow I doubt that people in Omaha or Tucson read the American Journal of Public Health while huffing and puffing on the StairMaster.”
