Work/Life Balance Blog ‘Ms. JD’ Spawns Nat’l Law Student Org.

Some 90 women students from an impressive 70 law schools gathered in New York over the weekend to organize and work together to improve professional prospects for women after graduation.
The Leadership Summit marked the one-year anniversary of the Ms. JD blog and the launch of a new group, the National Women Law Students' Organization.
At the summit, in addition to hearing from women-in-the-law pioneers, including New York Chief Judge Judith Kaye, the group elected regional delegates that will work to establish a presence at all law schools and will begin to connect members with practitioners, according to a Ms. JD summary of the summit.
"It was empowering and inspiring to be surrounded by so many women leaders, both in the profession and my fellow student leaders from other schools," says Caroline Conway, a Suffolk Law student who was picked to co-chair the Northeast region for NWLSO. Conway, in an e-mail exchange, says participants were excited about working toward a common goal.
"Networking is important, and women law students need to be able to build connections with both women and men," she says. "That was something recognized and agreed upon by all of the delegates at the summit."
The group got a BigLaw boost from Wachtell Lipton, which underwrote the event.

It is not accurate to report that Ms. JD ‘morphed’ into NWLSO. Hope that this can be clarified to ABA Journal readers! Ms. JD continues to exist as an umbrella organization in which practitioners and students collaborate to promote women in the profession. Ms. JD’s National Women Law Students’ Organization (NWLSO) is the student arm of Ms. JD.
