Would-Be Bar Dancer Sues Tavern

A woman who fell and crushed her ankle while attempting to dance on top of the bar at an Illinois tavern has sued the establishment for damages.
Amy Mueller, a patron in her twenties, has sued Samy's Bar and Grill, in Joliet, over the May 19, 2006 incident, contending that the tavern encouraged her to give the dangerous activity a try, reports the Chicago Tribune. The bar was negligent for "allowing [her] to climb upon the bar without a step-stool, ladder or other device used for safety," her suit contends.
"They encouraged their patrons to dance on the bar -- they cajole them, they yell at them, but they fail to take any safety precautions whatsoever," says Frank Cservenyak Jr., Mueller's attorney.
L. Barrett Bodach, a lawyer for Samy's and its owners, says the suit is the first they have heard of the incident. He has asked the judge to dismiss the case, contending that Mueller's injuries are her own fault. The bar is located about an hour and a half south of Chicago.
