Writers Strike Keeps Entertainment Firms Busy

Updated: The writers strike has entertainment law firms busy advising clients about strike rules, rights and obligations.

The Writers Guild is striking in an attempt to obtain residuals for work transmitted over the Internet and new media, the Recorder reports.

"There is a tremendous amount of work now," said Alan Brunswick, a labor and employment partner with Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. "This hasn't happened in 18, 19 years, so everyone wants to know: 'What can we do? What can we not do?' "

Bonnie Eskenazi, a partner at entertainment law firm Greenberg Glusker, told Variety that lawyers were working long hours to put together deals for nonscripted television projects.

Representing the Writers Guild is Anthony Segall of Rothner, Segall & Greenstone in Los Angeles. Representing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is William Cole, a labor and employment partner at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp.
