After Quack, Mack and Jack, Now Pack is Latest Bronze Duckling Stolen in Boston
Adding a new episode to a saga of unsolved crimes in Boston’s Public Garden, another one of the eight bronze ducklings replicating a famous contingent raised by Mrs. Mallard in a beloved children’s book has been stolen.
Following earlier thefts of Quack, Mack and Jack, this time Pack has been taken, reports the Boston Globe. The popular bird scuptures take their name from Robert McCloskey’s book, Make Way for Ducklings, which describes a Mallard couple’s travails as they seek a safe home for their babies at the Public Garden.
If the theft was intended as a joke, public officials aren’t laughing.
“This act is not a prank; it is a crime,” said Mayor Thomas Menino yesterday. “We would strongly encourage anyone with information to please come forward to assist with Pack’s safe return.”
