ALM Media, the publisher of American Lawyer, is reportedly exploring a sale.

Reuters and the New York Times DealBook blog say the publisher, backed by private equity firm Apax Partners, has hired the investment bank Jefferies to oversee a possible sale. Both reports are based on anonymous sources. Reuters broke the news.

ALM Media publications include the American Lawyer, the National Law Journal, Law.com and the New York Law Journal. The company generates about $55 million annually in gross earnings and could be sold for more than $500 million, Reuters says.
