Police investigators have failed to solve the 15 violent deaths of lawyers that have happened during the last two years in Baja California—a Mexican state on the Baja California Peninsula bordering the state of California—according to the head of the Baja California Bar Association.
“In none of these cases have they told us why they were murdered,” said David Jesús Rincón Rey, the president of the Baja California Bar Association. “Instead of possible motives behind the various murders, only justifications exist.”
He also said many cases in the Mexican state are labeled as being crime-related and simply dismissed, according to a story by the Border Report via CBS 17.
With the safety of lawyers a concern, according to Rincón Rey, guidelines are being pushed to ensure that the violent deaths are treated as serious incidents, and that lawyers who are threatened are entitled to police protection.
