In a litigation situation that doesn’t happen every day, two bankrupt law firms have agreed to a settlement of nearly $471,000.

If approved by the court in the Northern District of California case, the Heller Ehrman payment will compensate Brobeck Phleger & Harrison for work taken by former Brobeck lawyers to Heller as the once-mighty Silicon Valley law firm was dissolving in 2003, according to the Am Law Daily.

Under a 1984 California Court of Appeals case, Jewel v. Boxer, a bankrupt law firm has a right to a share of the profits from work it originated that is taken to another law firm.
