A Chicago lawyer and a former tax partner at Duane Morris is being held in jail after being formally charged with killing his wife in 2024.
Lawyer Adam Beckerink, 47, faces first-degree murder charges in the death of his wife, 36-year-old Caitlin Tracey. She was found at the bottom of a stairwell in their condominium building in October 2024, according to stories in the Chicago Sun-Times and Law360.
Cook County, Illinois, prosecutors said Chicago police identified Beckerink as a suspect in Tracey’s death early on, and an arrest warrant was issued last October.
“According to police, the couple had a documented history of domestic violence incidents in both Chicago and New Buffalo, Michigan, where Tracey also owned a home,” the prosecutors said.
Beckerink, a tax attorney, was fired as a partner at Duane Morris after the case became public. He was briefly detained by police following Tracey’s death after police said he lied on a missing person report that he filed for Tracey hours before her body was discovered, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Before appearing in court in Chicago this week, Beckerink had been jailed in Michigan, serving a 93-day sentence for domestic violence-related charges against his wife. He was extradited to Chicago on Monday and faces a detention hearing Friday.
