Fake letter on his law firm letterhead seeks to scam local businesses, attorney warns
A fake letter on his law firm letterhead is being used to scam local businesses, a Canadian attorney says.
In addition to alerting police in St. John’s, attorney Bob Buckingham has gone public, asking anyone who is presented with such a letter to report it to authorities and even take a photo of the individual involved, reports CBC News.
“He was approaching real estate agents, developers, banks, using it as a letter of comfort to get funds,” Buckingham explained.
The letter indicates the individual “had funds coming into his possession from I think sales of fishing licenses, other business ventures, and also supposed to be receiving a settlement from a female friend of his for over a million dollars,” Buckingham said.
