A Texas family law attorney initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the February shooting of her estranged husband has been cleared by a San Patricio County grand jury.

It declined to indict Kimberly Frost-Salazar, 41. She and a male friend said in 911 calls that she shot Anthony Garza Salazar after he rammed the friend’s truck with his vehicle and entered her Portland home, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (sub. req.) and an earlier KRIS article.

She said Anthony Salazar had not lived at the home since June 2014, KZTV reported in February. The Salazars were in the process of divorcing at the time of the shooting. A lawyer for Frost-Salazar said she shot her husband after he broke in through the front door, a subsequent KRIS article reports.

“Very rarely do we present our client at grand jury, but we believed in her,” attorney Angelica Hernandez, who is representing Frost-Salazar, told the Caller-Times. “She didn’t have anything to hide.”

It appears from news coverage that police in February may have thought Anthony Salazar struck the male friend’s vehicle after the shooting, but a transcript of the 911 call indicates he hit it before entering his wife’s home.

Anthony Salazar was hospitalized after the shooting, and a judge in the divorce case issued a protective order barring him from contact with his estranged wife. He has since been released from the hospital and does not appear to be facing any charges.

Frost-Salazar has reportedly moved out of Portland after the shooting.
