Family sues Campbell Soup over alleged 'worm-like organisms' inside SpaghettiOs

A Florida mother and her child allege that they became ill after eating SpaghettiOs containing “worm-like organisms," the basis of their negligence lawsuit filed against the Campbell Soup Co. in federal court Tuesday.
Florida residents Mary Hubbard, Gregory Lovell and their minor daughter, P.L., filed a complaint June 2 after the mother and the child ate the canned pasta in early June 2024, later discovering what looked like “worm-like organisms” moving in the food.
Walmart is also named as a defendant because the parents said they bought the product at the retail supercenter in Okeechobee, Florida, according to coverage by Law360.
Hubbard later became ill with a parasitic infection, gastrointestinal illness, sepsis and other issues. P.L. required medical treatment for a parasitic infection. They allege that Walmart and the Campbell Soup Co. are liable for negligence, strict liability, breach of implied warranty and selling “adulterated” food. They seek damages for bodily injury, medical costs, mental anguish and other damages.
A Walmart spokesperson said the “health and safety of our customers is a top priority.”
The Campbell Soup Co. did not immediately respond to Law360’s request for comment.
