A prominent Florida plastic surgeon was found guilty of murder charges in the death of a “beloved” lawyer who went missing in March 2023.
A judge found Dr. Tomasz Kosowski, 47, of Florida guilty of murdering 41-year-old lawyer Steven Cozzi, ABC News reports .
Florida Judge Joseph Bulone made his ruling following closing arguments Wednesday. Kosowski, who represented himself in the case, had waived his right to a jury trial.
Prosecutors said Kosowski had a “malicious and personal obsession” with Cozzi, who was representing defendants sued by Kosowski when he went missing from his law firm, and “methodically and systematically” planned the murder, according to ABC News.
Kosowski also waived his right to counsel and a jury for the penalty phase. He faces a sentence of life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
“The most unbearable part is that we were never able to bring Steven home,” Michael Montgomery, Cozzi’s husband, told the court. “I cannot describe the horrors this has brought me and all of Steven’s loved ones. It brings me more anger than I can put in words.”
