A trade group for in-house counsels is suing a rival, alleging that it misused the group’s copyrighted materials to train its own artificial intelligence chatbot, according to Reuters.
The Association of Corporate Counsel, a nonprofit bar association for in-house attorneys, claims that the L Suite trained its chatbot “Lloyd” on materials including at least one of the association’s reports, then used the association’s trademark and an image of the report to promote Lloyd in a video, Reuters reports.
“As a result, there can be no doubt that the L Suite was specifically aware that its Lloyd platform was utilizing ACC materials,” the lawsuit said.
The L Suite did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The group launched Lloyd in May, saying it “combines foundational AI capabilities with the trusted judgment of thousands of accomplished in-house legal executives,” according to Reuters.
