Increase in legal jobs driven by litigation, life sciences work

The legal sector is continuing its rebound, adding 1,200 more jobs in May, according to seasonally adjusted data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Last month, 1,237,200 people worked in lawyer, paralegal and other law-related professional roles, up from 1,236,000 in April and 1,234,100 in March, according to revised government statistics reported by Law360.
“It’s a very active market right now,” Peggy Bennett, a managing director at legal recruiting company Macrae, told Law360. “I think it’s going to be a really busy summer, and I don’t think it’s going to slow down.”
Bennett also told Law360 that she’s seeing increased demand for litigation in artificial intelligence, healthcare and intellectual property, as well as work in life sciences, cybersecurity and other technology.
Government data shows that the number of legal jobs increased by 24,300 since this time last year, Law360 reports.
