A judge from Intercourse, Pa., has been charged with disorderly conduct based on allegations he passed out condoms hidden inside acorns in the state Capitol complex.

Judge Isaac Stoltzfus was charged last week, according to the Associated Press, the Patriot-News and LancasterOnline.com. He presides over low-level cases in Lancaster County.

Stoltzfus is accused of handing out the condoms while he was in Harrisburg attending a continuing legal education conference. He reportedly told police he handed out the condoms as a joke, the Patriot-News says.

Capitol Police were holding several unopened nuts as evidence.

American Civil Liberties Union staff attorney Val Burch is supporting Stoltzfus. “While we think that passing out condom-stuffed acorns may be one of the more creative ways to send a message, whether it was a dirty joke or a plea for safe sex, leafleting to get your point across is older than the Constitution, and it’s protected by it,” Burch told the Patriot-News.
