A Michigan judge’s girlfriend has taken a plea in a drunken-driving case initiated by the judge’s ex-wife.

Brenda Conway will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty Monday in the 46th District Court in Southfield, the Detroit Free Press reports. Authorities said at the time the case was brought in January that her blood-alcohol level registered 0.18.

However, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Richard Caretti, who was a passenger in the car with Conway and his children after a wedding, said she appeared fine after observers questioned why he was in the car with an accused drunk driver, the newspaper notes.

The children’s mother called police when one of the couple’s daughters, then 12 and 15, texted her and suggested Brenda Conway was driving drunk, the article says.
