Littler Mendelson has announced special bonuses for some lawyers, making it possibly the first BigLaw firm to offer bonus cash this summer, according to a report by Above the Law.

Littler “kicked off the special bonus party” with a video announcement Friday, Above the Law reports. The firm plans to pay bonuses to high-billing associates, counsel and first-level shareholders.

Those lawyers will receive bonuses if they are on a 2,100-hour pace at the end of June.

Lawyers who received the special bonuses were paid an average of $10,000, according to Above the Law.

Davis Polk & Wardwell set the standard for special bonuses in 2020, with bonuses ranging from $7,500 to $40,000, and again in 2021, with bonuses ranging from $12,000 to $64,000.

“Is Davis Polk watching right now?” Above the Law asks. “Associates certainly hope so.”

Littler did not immediately respond to the ABA Journal’s request for comment.
