A man who pleaded guilty to starting a fire in the Colorado Supreme Court building was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison.
The fire caused extensive damage to the building, according to 9News.com.
Brandon Olsen, 46, pleaded guilty in July to one count of arson, the website stated.
The Denver district attorney’s office said Olsen broke into the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center on Jan. 2, 2024. He stole the keys to the building from a security guard at gunpoint and then started a fire on the seventh floor, according to 9News.com.
The Colorado State Patrol said the damage done to the building from water and smoke was significant. District Attorney John Walsh said it cost “many millions of dollars” to repair, according to the website.
