Found guilty in 2009 of murdering an elderly woman decades earlier, when he was a teenager, Jeffrey Glazebrook eventually got that conviction reversed.

But the 54-year-old will serve at least 20 years for a mouthed a threat to kill a jailhouse informant testifying at his murder trial that was seen by multiple jurors and a sheriff, the Journal Star reports.

On Tuesday, the Nebraska Court of Appeals affirmed his conviction for witness tampering and making terroristic threats, as well as his 30- to 60-year sentence, which was enhanced because he was a habitual offender. Glazebrook’s counsel argued that he was being punished for the murder through an unduly harsh sentence, but the appellate court did not agree.

“In light of his multiple previous felony convictions, the seriousness of these crimes, and the disrespect Glazebrook has demonstrated for legal process by committing these offenses in court, we find the trial court did not abuse its discretion,” the appeals court explained in its written opinion.

Glazebrook will have to serve a minimum of 20 years, the newspaper says.
