Man who worked as office boy for Morgan Lewis before eventually making partner dies at 96
Lawyer Benjamin M. Quigg Jr., 96, of Jenkintown, Pa., died this week of pneumonia, leaving behind a legacy that saw him rise from a teenage office hand to a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he retired from in 1986.
Quigg joined the firm in 1935 and then worked as a secretary while taking classes for his bachelor’s degree at night, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He went on to graduate from the University of Michigan Law school in 1944 and rejoined the firm after serving two years in the Navy. Quigg, who became a partner in 1956, practiced antitrust law and was a member of the ABA and other local bar associations. He endowed a scholarship at his former law school and held leadership roles at numerous charitable organizations and nonprofits, the Inquirer reports.
Quigg, who enjoyed running, participated in races through his 70s; he also planted 100 new daffodil bulbs in front of his family home each year. He’s survived by his wife of 53 years and three nieces, according to the report.
